Short-Term Stay After Hospital Admission
Patients that have been admitted to a hospital for a minimum of three nights may have the option for a short-term stay in our center to receive 24-hour Nursing care and Physical, Occupational and Speech Therapy up to seven-days each week. Patients may also request a short-term Respite in-patient stay for periods of a few days to several months.

Patients that require a permanent in-patient stay may be admitted from the Hospital, Assisted Living Facility or Home after receiving an admission order from their primary physician.

[review] => My father spent more than two months in rehab here. The staff is absolutely wonderful. Caring for elderly people who can't do much for themselves creates a challenging work environment, and everyone (nurses, CNAs, maintenance, physical therapists, other staff) treats each patient respect and dignity.
The facility is attractive, clean, secure, and well-maintained. My father said the food was good, and they have plenty of activities for the residents.
I visited my father daily and rarely noticed any odors (and when I did, I could also see someone cleaning up). My father had a couple of falls (they aren't allowed to put bedrails up and he would try to get out of bed without assistance), and I was notified promptly. My father had several setbacks but the PT staff was finally able to get him strong enough to move to an ALF.
Over the years, my husband and I have known people who went here for rehab, so when my father needed rehab, we were delighted that they had a bed available. We wouldn't hesitate to have him go back if he needs it, and we highly recommend this facility for rehab and skilled nursing.

[review] => If I could give negative stars, I would. There are no words for the amount of disrespect the Admissions Department has for the process or for families who do not understand the process. Yari should probably consider a different line of work because she is dismissive, rude and overall not helpful in any form of the word. My mother was in an auto accident and needed several weeks of rehab. We were referred to this facility by the hospital. The hospital attempted several times to provide the necessary information for her to be transferred. From the beginning, it was chaos. The admissions paperwork needed to be sent multiple times, only to be told she was denied without reason. I had to repeatedly call for an update only to have not one message returned. When I did finally get her on the phone she rudely stated, "I said I'll call you by the end of the day". Let me add, she never once asked my name or the name of the patient. (I guess she's psychic). As expected, she never called. My fault for not asking which day she was referring to in her response. When another family member called for an update, Yari would not provide any information other than she was "denied". Ok, fine, but why? Yari, all you did was add more stress to an already difficult situation. We were provided a bogus response without validity. We are not asking for a secret recipe, we are asking why your facility denied care. Ma'am, this is your job; the one YOU CHOSE. A little compassion and courtesy would go a long way in your line of work. I am not sure why you are so mean to individuals who are already going through a tough situation. With all due respect, please do not respond to this review with a boilerplate "We're very sorry for your negative experience..." response you give to all of your negative reviews. Maybe try to empathize with individuals rather than copy and paste. It makes an already bad situation worse. Just DO BETTER!

[review] => If you are thinking about taking someone here don’t !!!!! This place should not even be in business. My mother was released from Oviedo hospital ( another place to avoid ) it was the day before thanksgiving. We had no where to take my mom in such short notice by the hospital that could give my mom the care she needed. And this place claimed they could. Got there at 6pm at night cause the move on there part was so unorganized. They put my mom in a gloomy room with paint missing off the walls. The pictures look nothing like the room. Finally some guy came in claiming to be a nurse. He said every 3 hours they come in to check people’s vitals. So the oxygen tank that came with the ambulance people was almost gone so he started looking for a machine. Brought one in. Plugged it in. It was loud and then stopped. It said needs to be serviced. So now she has no oxygen and he’s running around looking for another oxygen machine the concentrator. Took so long I had to give my 94 yr old mother my oxygen that I use. I kept yelling she can’t breathe. Brought in another one. Again did not work. They wanted to give my mom 1\2 used tanks thru out the night that they did keep a eye on when they ran out. So after speaking with a manager on the phone cause I demanded to. She told me at 1am in the morning I can go home and bring my moms back which I did. So at 2:30 in the morning I came home thinking my mom would be fine. Also no dinner for her when we got there at 6 pm. He said the kitchen closed ????? Seriously. So in the morning tried to call the nurses to ring my mom’s room. No answer. Sent my husband there cause he was close to the place and here was mom laying in bed saying that she couldn’t breath all night and nobody came in when she ranged the button. I told that nurse check my mom’s oxygen. It was 83. Anything below 92 you need oxygen. My husband called 911 ASAP and they took her to a better hospital then Oviedo. She knows she’s congested heart failure and left her down in the bed all night when she couldn’t breathe. She slid down and they never put her back up. None of these people are qualified to take care of nothing. Not even a pet !!!!!!!!!!!!!! This place should not be in business. The pictures lie. I don’t know who wrote the good reviews but I think it was them and family. And I don’t know how they got best places for 2024. That person got something for that. Never leave anyone in here. There is so much neglect here. Very sad 😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡

Tamika and one other nurse were in the hallway cussing up a storm about one of their patients. The patient had to go to the bathroom so i went to get the nurse and she just looked at me...took about 5 minutes for someone to come in.. being that the patient has a UTI at 93 years old, when she has to go, she has to go. The front desk receptionist is also incredibly rude. And let me not forget to mention they told us our loved one had RSV which she in turn did not. My loved one also told me they forget to give them food sometimes...All she had yesterday was a biscuit! This place needs to get shut down. I feel bad for the patients there who cant talk and tell their loved ones what goes on.

[review] => My father came in for rehab after a hospital stay. He was very weak, but after a few days was working hard to get out of there and back home.
From the therapists (Ron, Doug, JC , Pascale and others) to the nursing staff (Chynna, Adrienne, Todd and others) CNAs, housekeeping, and laundry & maintenance (Felix) and Social Worker (Lee), and the Administrator (Rod) my dad got great care and encouragement. Not everything was perfect and of course everyone wants to go directly home after a hospital stay, but for me as a concerned daughter, I was always able to get answers to any questions that I had and any situation resolved and was always shown patience and kindness. I was up there almost daily so I feel like I have a good sense of the place. My father's only complaint was he didn't like the coffee (I'd call that a win!)
My father realized he had to put in the work to get out of there and therapists always allowed him to "do another set" when he asked, if it was safe. He was there longer than he wanted but I felt confident he was safe to go when discharged. He got right back into his routine at home quickly.
I would definitely recommend Tuskawilla Nursing and Rehab.

No consistency with staff. If you have a complaint be prepared because all upper nursing does is argue instead of resolve. Therapy is nice but the food is garbage as well. Do not recommend. [review] => I was extremely surprised by the treatment received at the Tuskawilla Nursing & Rehab Center. I contacted your admissions representative (Ms. Debra) within a month of discharge from the hospital (this because she asked me) and after another month has elapsed between Procedures and calls about documents that were needed for the admission of my father in the facility. Finally, I sent her a fax with the approval of the insurance and surprisingly I did not get a response or return of calls from her so I had to contact the insurance so through them I could obtain the unexpected response of no beds available. I think it is inadmissible that they put the health of a patient at risk. It is known to everyone, especially the staff of a rehab center that the first 3 months are crucial for the recovery of a patient after suffering a stroke. It was not better from the beginning to inform me that they did not have space and not to waste valuable time that greatly harmed my father waiting at home for the required rehabilitation suggested by his doctor. Your admissions procedures should be less bureaucratic as it hurts the health of a human being enormously as these patients are waiting for help to recuperate.

They were caring, patient and encouraging to him and our family during a very difficult time in our lives. The facility is clean and my dad was very well cared for and always freshly showered. Administration is kind and very helpful, and also very patient. They took my dad to BINGO several times! Amazing social worker who genuinely cares about what is best for your loved ones and works long hours to ensure things are on point. Loved our Dr. also who gladly took the time to answer questions. compassionate and caring. Activities that resident prefers and enjoy are usually fun. Tuskawilla resembles a hotel destined for recovery of the body and spirit. The Therapy department staff works hard to get everyone going, Dietary staff prepares food that is edible and if you don't like it you can get an alternate. I especially liked that fact that a staff visits you everyday just to find out if your were ok. Tuskawilla has been standing for over 20 years. I know I was daughter of one of the first residents there. It has evolved and always manage to come through the changing external environment. COVID-19 has placed restriction on the nation and Tuskawilla is not excluded by any means, however families are not forgotten and the facility has other means for resident to communicate with their families. The facility has followed the guidelines to ensure that COVID does not enter the building. Their infection control practice is impeccable. Tuskawilla practices transparency and communicate with families when there is a sliver of a chance of difference in process that may affect the residents. Today its still stands strong with the unsung heroes that work there. I was able to leave knowing that I would be ok with all the resource put in place after my discharge to keep me well.

[review] => Just had left hip replaced, and a pacemaker installed, don't ask for pain relief. There really isn't anything good to say. I think they only are allowed $3 a day to feed you. If Oviedo Med. Didn't force me into rehab, I'd probably been better off in my own bed. Day 7... been waiting over 2 hrs for morning meds. Can you believe they give a building of old people hard boiled eggs for breakfast. Day 8, it's surprising with a little complaining things can start changing. Food turns out OK.. Still a little slow with meds.. or getting doctors to understand what they are giving me only lasts if I'm lucky 2or 3 hrs. But the nurse staff do have their hands tied. Day9, terrible doctors here won't adjust pain meds.. new roommate who needs oxygen, you'd think it was a old tire pump at a gas station . Everything is old hand me drowns. 9:15 nurse was standing in front of room a while than walked off not giving me anything. I want to say nice things but people just won't let me.Day 12, I have to update my star rating. In all fairness this is a very good place, there are exceptions to everything, and I've let a couple of things cloud my judgement the theorphy staff are very tough but have to be. The nurses are ok I just need to be a little fairer about a few things.The CNAs are the true work horse's around here. Litchen staff, done nice job also. They did great for my likes

My mother was abused by staff, over medicated, had all of her medications changed, and was dumped at the ER and discharged against regulation. She is worse now than when she was admitted. Her clothes were taken, staff allowed her to remain in soiled clothes to the point she has a severe UTI. I witnessed other residents call buttons being ignored, and neglected . Staff do not follow through with what they say. The Management, DN, Social Workers are all clueless about how to care for people. This facility is a joke and will be reported to the Dept. Of Elder affairs. Do not send your loved one here.

[review] => Poor quality of care trumps this facilities beautiful design and grounds. I value the service that long term care and rehab facilities provide and respect the dedication of the staff who do this important work.
The facts of my loved ones care there:
1. two falls within the first 2 weeks; without standard fall precautions being done by staff
2. Surgery site infection being unreported to family or MD POA.
3. Frequent moves between rooms adds to potential confusion and disorientation for residents.

[review] => Beautiful facility with friendly staff and excellent nursing care! We were very pleased with everything and would highly recommend this facility to friends and family. The building is well maintained and has a great layout. No smells as some of these places tend to have. There is even a beautiful courtyard in the center that the rehab gym overlooks with tall windows letting in natural light - a huge plus when working hard in the gym! The center is located in beautiful Winter Springs and has many local restaurants and shopping nearby for friends and family members who are visiting. Activities are also provided at the center which consists of live entertainment, games, and of course ice cream socials! The staff are warm and inviting and make you feel like part of the family. As you can tell I would recommend this place to anyone!

[review] => My husband and I placed our loved one there based on reviews from the state inspections. She was transferred from another facility in Orlando to be close to us in Oviedo. It was apparent very early that the facility was understaffed with medical professionals. It was always difficult to find a nurse or a CNA to answer calls from our room. It was very insulting, concerning and infuriating to stand at the nurses station several minutes without a look up or a confirmation that you existed on each occasion we approached with a need or request. My husband and I both experienced this. In the evenings it was difficult to find a nurse or a CNA (and we visited every evening). The Transfer orders from the Previous facility were not correctly transcribed, so for several days she did not receive the medications she had prior to her transfer and no-one noticed. We were the ones who caught the errors. If you care about the CARE don't go THERE !

[review] => My grandfather was admitted at this facility after a mild stroke for rehabilitation. The staff was very friendly and understanding of our very large family as all of us came to visit. The speak therapist they brought in was great. My grandfather was also appreciative of the daily activities. I personally liked the staff that was assigned to him. He was a very big man and they did everything possible to both help him, but keep him comfortable and even brought in special equipment to accommodate his size. Overall I felt he was in gods hands at this facility. I would recommend to a friend.

After filling several grievance reports and meetings, nothing changed and problems continued. They have shared rooms -- e.g., a room is shared between two guests. They are very clean. The dining set-up is very nice. It is very clean and spacious. The food is good. They really have all kinds of activities. They have a few people that come in to sing and do music, and they have dominoes and bingo, but my father doesn't really do too many activities.

[review] => Avoid this place if at all possible. If you can't avoid it make sure your family member has many unannounced visits daily. The quality of care provided is poor. The CNAs are too busy to care. The wait time after pushing the call button for help is unreliable. It felt more like a prison than skilled nursing. If your loved one has memory problems you will need to be there often to advocate on their behalf. The staff will tell them they don't remember what really happened even if they clearly do and have bruises from falling. I say this because my 50 year old husband fell down trying to go to the bathroom when no one answered his call for help. They were mad at him and questioned the roommate if he was telling the truth. It is extremely sad to see healthcare workers that do not actually care. Your loved one will be treated differently when you are not around to witness it.

I only went for a visit, to see if the facility would be up to par for my grandmother and I was appalled by everything I saw and heard while I was there. Staff was running around like crazy, I overheard some what I assume to be cna's in the bathroom talking about how they don't even understand why the facility is taking on more residents so often when the care isn't right for the ones they already have. I couldn't even believe that. The facility wasn't homely or welcoming but had a chaotic atmosphere. One of the residents that I had sat down with and spoke with complained about how their rooms don't get cleaned up properly and how she had over 3 UTI's since she had been there due to the nurses not doing her right. I immediately became apprehensive and didn't need to hear anything further.

Recently had a resident here for rehab. We are local so tend to refer residents here. Just want to show appreciation for this time around. Our resident returned so much stronger than before. My father spent more than two months in rehab here. The staff is absolutely wonderful. Caring for elderly people who can't do much for themselves creates a challenging work environment, and everyone (nurses, CNAs, maintenance, physical therapists, other staff) treats each patient respect and dignity.
The facility is attractive, clean, secure, and well-maintained. My father said the food was good, and they have plenty of activities for the residents.
I visited my father daily and rarely noticed any odors (and when I did, I could also see someone cleaning up). My father had a couple of falls (they aren't allowed to put bedrails up and he would try to get out of bed without assistance), and I was notified promptly. My father had several setbacks but the PT staff was finally able to get him strong enough to move to an ALF.
Over the years, my husband and I have known people who went here for rehab, so when my father needed rehab, we were delighted that they had a bed available. We wouldn't hesitate to have him go back if he needs it, and we highly recommend this facility for rehab and skilled nursing.
